Our Pastors and Leadership Team
One Hope Community Church is led by a small team of pastors and elders who are deeply committed to Fort Mill and the surrounding York County community. These aren't professional clergy who landed here by chance — they are husbands, fathers, and grandparents who have lived in this area for decades, raised their families here, and chosen to invest their lives in this place.
We believe leadership in the church is not about title or position, it's about shepherding people. That means teaching God's Word faithfully, caring for people in hard seasons, and equipping every member of One Hope to live on mission in their neighborhood, workplace, and home.
If you're exploring churches in Fort Mill and want to know who is leading and shaping the vision of One Hope, we invite you to get to know our team below. And if you ever want to connect, ask a question, or just have a conversation, we'd love to hear from you.

Steven Borders - Lead Pastor
Steven Borders is the founding lead pastor of One Hope Community Church in Fort Mill, SC. He and his wife Sherry have called Fort Mill home for over 15 years, raising their two teenagers here and putting down deep roots in the community.
As Fort Mill has grown rapidly into one of the fastest-growing areas in South Carolina, Steven felt a clear call from God to help meet the growing need for healthy, gospel-centered churches in the area. That conviction led him to plant One Hope — a church built on the belief that every person deserves to be seen, known, and loved within their local church family.
Steven holds a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and brings years of local church experience to his role, having served in everything from young families ministry to outreach coordination to leading small groups and Bible studies. He serves as One Hope's primary preacher and teacher, and his passion is simple: helping people in Fort Mill and the surrounding York County area discover the beauty of the Gospel and find their place among God's people.

Ronnie Barnes - Missions & Men's Ministry
Ronnie Barnes came to faith in college and has spent his life since pursuing the spread of the Gospel — from Southeast Asia to the Carolinas. He and his wife Heather spent 13 years as missionaries in Thailand before returning stateside, and today Ronnie serves as a missionary mobilizer with Mesa Global, equipping others to take the Gospel to unreached peoples around the world.
Ronnie holds a degree in Biblical Studies from Columbia International University in Columbia, SC — one of the country's leading institutions for missions and cross-cultural ministry.
Though Ronnie and Heather now live in the Steele Creek area just across the state line, they spent many years in the Fort Mill community raising their three children — all now adults — and Ronnie's heart remains deeply connected to this area. At One Hope, he leads Men's Ministry and brings a passion for discipleship and global mission to everything he does. His vision is to see the Gospel take root not just in far-off nations, but right here in Fort Mill, York County, and the communities of the greater Charlotte region.

Derrick Bucy - Teacher / Elder
Derrick Bucy has been a fixture in Fort Mill for over 20 years. He and his wife Lisa raised four boys here, and they are now proud grandparents — their family is a living testament to the kind of long-rooted community investment that One Hope was built to support. He and Lisa have helped plant a number of churches over the course of their lives.
Derrick has served as a pastor and church planter in the Fort Mill and York County area and brings decades of shepherding experience to his role as an elder at One Hope. By trade he works as an engineer, making him one of the many leaders throughout church history who have balanced a professional career with a genuine calling to shepherd God's people.
His heart is to see the local church meet the full range of needs in the community — physical, spiritual, and social. Whether it's walking alongside a family in a difficult season or helping a new believer take their first steps of faith, Derrick brings a grounded, servant-hearted presence to the One Hope leadership team.

Rooted in Fort Mill
One Hope Community Church was planted in Fort Mill, SC out of a conviction that this rapidly growing community needs more healthy, gospel-centered local churches. Fort Mill and the surrounding areas — including Tega Cay, Indian Land, Baxter Village, and the greater York County region — have seen extraordinary population growth over the past decade, and with that growth comes an increasing need for churches where people can belong, be known, and grow in their faith.
Our leadership team has lived in and around Fort Mill for a combined 30-plus years. We're not a campus of a large organization or a franchise of a national brand — we're a local church, planted by local people, for this community. We care about Fort Mill because this is where we live, where our kids go to school, and where our neighbors are.
If you're new to Fort Mill, recently relocated to the area, or simply looking for a church home in York County, we'd love for you to visit us and meet our team in person.
